Venture capital and private equity in Italy - first semester 200118/12/2001. Source: AIFI.
The first half of 2001 displayed the first signs of a slowdown in the private equity and venture capital market in Italy. After six years of constant growth, this year's figures paint a much bleaker picture.
In the first half of 2001, institutional investors invested E674m in 256 companies. The trade sale was the most common form of divestment with 66 per cent of investments being exited this way. New funds raised in the first half of 2001 totalled E500,000m - way below the total for 2000 which reached E2.9m.
