The Baker & McKenzie update gives details of new private equity funds, amendments to capital gains tax legislation and recent transactions. New private equity funds continued to be announced in summer 2000, despite the recent correction in technology stocks. Funds were raised by various players including ABN Amro, Citigroup and the recently established Blue Peak Venture Capital Technology Fund. See page one for details.
In July, further amendments to the capital gains tax regime were passed by Federal Parliament. Critics continued to argue that reforms could go further in terms of broadening the tax exemption. See page three.
