The May 2000 update from Baker & McKenzie includes an analysis of the New Business Tax System Bills. Based on the Ralph Review, such reforms are part of a strategy to overhaul Australia's tax system.
The Ralph Review was intended to promote investment in innovative firms by providing certain types of capital gains tax exemptions. See page one for an explanation of these reforms.
Australian MBO activity continues to look healthy - the value of transactions has more than doubled each year for the past three years, according to a survey by Ernst & Young. Page two provides some figures and makes some predictions.
The report also contains a discussion of the Pooled Development Funds Amendments Bill, the Innovation Investment Fund and VC initiatives from Andersen Consulting and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
