Investments and exits: A Survey of the private equity market in Hungary 2000

29/05/2001Source: Venture Capital Partners. Steven Kopits

In 2000, an explosion of private equity deals and investments hit Hungary. Sectors such as the internet, IT and telecoms were at centre stage and exiting funds exceeded their IRR expectations.

This survey by Venture Capital Partners provides an assessment of the private equity market in Hungary for most of 2000. As the Russian crisis receded, investment levels soared and new economy sectors took hold. Small deals were prevalent, with over 60 per cent of transactions involving sums of up to US$1m. Almost half of the investment transactions had an exclusively Hungarian focus, but regional plays proved increasingly popular. Exit totals were slightly down on the 1999 figures, but overall private equity players were more than happy with their financial returns.
