Several factors caused venture capital activity in Canada to slow in the first nine months of 2001. Here Macdonald & Associates analyses VC investment activity up to Q3 and the state of the industry following 11 September. Despite a 27 per cent drop in deals up to Q3, the Canadian VC industry recovered well post 11 September, aided by continuing flows of capital from US investors. Investment levels now remain similar to those of 2000, unlike in the US where they have fallen to pre-1999 levels.
