The key to improving levels of new business growth in South Africa is education, says this report for the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. While not desperate - South Africa has average rates of entrepreneurial activity in international terms - there are concerns about the lack of a ready supply of entrepreneurs. South Africa ranks 14th out of 29 countries surveyed for the GEM report in terms of entrepreneurial activity. One in 18 South African adults is classified as an entrepreneur, but the proportion of people who believe they have the skills and opportunities to create and build a new business are well below average.
