Iberian M&A Activity20/11/2002. Source: Dealogic.
At a time when virtually every other region in the world has experienced some sort of decline in M&A activity, the Iberian Peninsula has bucked the trend and shown an increase in the 12 months to September 2002 on the previous year. Dealogic gives an overview of the M&A market in Spain and Portugal and offers some insights into what the immediate future may hold.
The volume of activity in the region reached 737 transactions valued at $29.8bn, a 12 per cent increase on the 12 months before. This compares favourably with the global downturn of 34 per cent. Much of the increase can be attributed to the transportation sector that has seen a 400 per cent growth rate on the previous year.
