The FCPI, or ‘Fond commun de placement dans l'innovation', was set up in 1997 by the French government to encourage investment in small private companies (with fewer than 500 employees). In this overview of the FCPI, the French venture capital association AFIC takes a look at the structure's success and its role in encouraging a more entrepreneurial culture. In French.
FCPIs now represent the most popular investment vehicle for French investors into start-ups. And their role in enabling small companies to grow is evidenced in the fact that some 43 per cent of companies financed by FCPIs employ fewer than ten people, and 80 per cent employ fewer than 30.
