After a slow beginning, Taiwan's venture capital industry has since grown dramatically. The number of venture capital funds has increased from 34 in 1995 to 170 in 2000, according to Teresa Yang, secretary general of the Taiwan venture Capital Association, in an article for the Israel Venture Capital Journal.
In 2003, more than 200 funds with total capital of NT$170bn were active in Taiwan, investing in more than 8,000 enterprises in IT, semiconductors, telecommunications and biotechnology, among other advanced technology fields.
