Venture capital industry consultant Dr. Martin Haemmig recently returned from China where he was assessing the country's investment environment and rapidly developing venture capital industry. In this article the Israel Venture Capital Journal interviews Dr. Haemmig about a range of challenges facing investors in the Chinese market including legislation and regulation, management issues and investment strategy. Haemmig also explores the impact that emergence of China as an innovation centre could mean for places like Silicon Valley and how the Chinese venture capital market is likely to evolve over the next five years.

Dr. Martin Haemmig is Adjunct Professor at CeTIM Centre for Technology and Innovation Management at the University of MunichBW - the Rotterdam School of Management, as well as the California School of International Management, for which he managed the UC Berkeley campus program on "Entrepreneurship & Venture Capital". He is a consultant to governments and venture capital associations with regard to professionalizing the venture capital industry
and to venture capital firms on their internationalization processes.
