The hidden secret of Israeli medical technology29/06/2005. Source: Israel Venture Capital Journal.
In this Israeli Venture Capital Journal article, Dr. Dalia Megiddo, Managing Partner of Innomed Ventures, examines the contribution of Israel’s defense industry to the success of medical technology ventures in Israel. Israel boasts many breakthrough technologies and promising companies in the medical tech-nology field. In fact, Israel is considered the third most important source of medical tech-nology in the world. In a recent survey conducted by one of the world’s largest medical device companies, deals from Israel outnumbered those from all of Europe combined!
This fact needs explanation. Neither the relative strength Israel’s economy nor the level of investment in science can alone explain such an astonishing finding. Yes, Israel is the land of entrepreneurship, and Israeli culture promotes "out-of-the-box" thinking, yet the outstanding accomplishments of Israeli medtech requires deeper exploration.
Question: What do companies such as Lumenis, Mediguide, Topspin, Remon Medical, Syneron, Insightec, Given Imaging, Galil Medical, Glucon Medical and V-Target have in common?
Answer: They share the underlying strength of the Israeli medtech industry – their connection to Israeli defense technologies.
All these companies, and many others, were created bv people who spent numerous years in the development of defense technologies and brought their knowledge, expertise and experience to the medical arena.
