Changes brought into force in the UK on 20 May 2006 give effect to the EU-wide Takeover Directive and a number of other changes which have been the subject of extensive consultation, says Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Within the UK, by and large there is little substantive change although the Panel has been put onto a statutory footing and been given greater powers of enforcement, again now on a statutory basis, with a wider range of penalties which can be imposed for non-compliance.
