Efi Cohen-Arazi opines on Israeli biotech24/10/2007. Source: IVCJ (Israel Venture Capital & Private Equity Journal).
In this IVCJ article, Isabel Maxwell profiles Efi Cohen-Arazi in her continuing series on investment and high-tech personalities. Prodigiously successful Efi Cohen-Arazi, biotechnology entrepreneur par excellence, slips into the Daniel Hotel in Herzliya at 7 am for our designated meeting. It is the only time available in a busy schedule for Cohen-Arazi, the newly appointed Chairman of Collplant Ltd., which specializes in the production of human collagen from transgenic plants.
Efi's biography is well known to many, but does not cease to impress with the telling. The son of Jewish refugees from Egypt, he was born and raised in Israel under very modest circumstances in a family of 10. An officer and paratrooper in his youth, he spent much time on the land, which led to an early fascination with agriculture and, in particular, with molecular biology and biochemistry. He studied at the Hebrew University, and in the lab of an early mentor, Ilan Head, then president of the Weizmann Institute.
