Despite the political difficulties that arose in 2006, analysts nonetheless forecasted a 2007 characterized by stability and a favorable investment environment, and announced that Mexico would offer a good market for private equity funds in the coming years. This study, the second study prepared by Deloitte in collaboration with the Asociación Mexicana de Capital Privado, focuses on the level of activity of the private equity funds in Mexico during 2006, and their expectations for 2007. One of the most significant points of this study is the 130% estimated growth in investment from 2006 to 2007.
In addition, much of the data collected in this study shows that Mexico's private equity fund market is growing, albeit at a lesser rate than that initially expected. This situation is particularly reflected by the creation of different funds with Mexican resources and the new projects developed by the existing funds.
Similarly, the study shows that private equity funds may be an attractive financial partner alternative for companies with a long-term vision and imperative financing needs to maintain and strengthen a business growth plan.
This year's survey shows new sections that could be of considerable interest, including: the impact of the New Securities Law (“Nueva Ley de Mercado de Valores”) on investment projects; the most significant market segments considered when making investment decisions; the percentage of closed transactions from the number of opportunities received and analyzed; successful investment cases and the main obstacles faced when investing in Mexico, among others. This improvement answers to the comments received from different funds as feedback on last year’s report, Deloitte and the Asociación Mexicana de Capital Privado (AMEXCAP) will continue with this enhancement practice in subsequent studies.
