European asset manager GLG Partners has appointed Galia Velimukhametova as a portfolio manager in the firm's London office. Velimukhametova will be working alongside Steve Roth, the GLG Credit Fund and Market Neutral Fund portfolio manager. In her new role, she will continue to focus on distressed situations. Velimukhametova joins from King Street Capital, where she was a managing director and member of the investment committee. She was responsible for investment selection and portfolio composition in addition to launching the firm's European office.
Prior to this, Velimukhametova was at JPMorgan, most recently working as a debt equity and capital structure arbitrage trader. Before that, she held positions in the emerging markets groups at Baring Asset Management and Rothschild Asset Management.
Emmanuel Roman, co-CEO of GLG, said, 'We are delighted to have Galia join us. Her expertise in distressed debt and special situations adds to the depth of the credit team and should prove helpful as we opportunistically deploy capital over the next 18 months.'
In May of this year, GLG were awarded a $3bn mandate from the asset management division of Italian private bank Banca Fideuram, part of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group.
