15/07/2008. Assets under management of the global hedge fund industry increased 30 per cent in 2007 to a record $2.25bn, according to the 2008 edition of IFSL’s Hedge Funds report. Most of this growth was in the first three quarters, as market turbulence in the latter part of the year resulted in a slowdown in inflow of new funds and a decline in average returns.

09/07/2008. The hedge fund investor community is strongly in favour of industry standards proposed by the Hedge Fund Working Group, according to a survey by KPMG of UK institutional investors, funds of hedge funds and investment consultants. When making investment allocations, eight out of ten pension funds said they would favour a hedge fund manager who had complied with the hedge fund best practice standards.

AXA Framlington transfers six funds to newly formed Architas
07/07/2008. Hedge fund manager AXA Framlington has transferred the firm's six AXA Framlington Multimanager funds to newly formed hedge fund manager Architas Multi-Manager. As part of the deal, Caspar Rock has been appointed as deputy CIO of Architas. Rock will continue to manage the funds which he has been running since June 2006.

Mitsubishi invests $39m for a 19.5 per cent stake in Aladdin Capital
07/07/2008. Stamford, Connecticut-headquartered alternative investment management firm Aladdin Capital Holdings has entered into a strategic partnership with Japanese corporation Mitsubishi Corporation. Mitsubishi will become the second largest shareholder of Aladdin by investing $39m for a 19.5 per cent stake in the firm.
