The Cinven Index - Private equity and European M&A: future expectations 18/07/2001. Source:Cinven/Mergermarket.
The outlook is good for European private equity as a segment of mergers and acquisitions activity, according to this survey by Cinven and Mergermarket. The vast majority of respondents (78 per cent) said that they believed private equity participation within the M&A market would increase this year.
As in previous years, the UK led Europe in the private equity sector, accounting for 56% of all European buy-out activity. However, other markets look set to increase their private equity participation. France is expected to increase its involvement mainly in deal sizes of between E850m and E1.7bn. In the UK and Germany, participation in deals between E85m and E850m will also be well above the European average with some companies in Germany expected to take advantage of the imminent tax reforms.
