M&A activity is increasingly becoming a good indicator of how healthy the private equity market is, says this report by buy-out house Cinven. And the good news is that private equity-funded M&A is set to grow even more. This report analyses the private equity component of the pan-European mergers and acquisition market and anticipates future trends for 2000 and beyond. Between 1996 and 1999, the private equity contribution to European M&A activity increased dramatically. By number of transactions, the private equity contribution rose by 219 per cent and by value of transactions, the figure was 329 per cent.
Private equity-funded M&A activity will continue to grow, according to Cinven, as globalisation spreads and corporate vendors increasingly recognise the value of private equity as an alternative to more traditional disposal routes.
