The economic slowdown and the events of 11 September have made debt lenders much more cautious as they wait to see what the full impact on the economy will be. This Ernst & Young survey presents the current thinking of the market's leading lenders. Deal volume has now returned to levels similar to those seen before 11 September. Nevertheless, a lower quality of deals has led to the expectation of lower conversion rates. Some lenders are just focusing on businesses in the traditional industrial sectors with strong realisable asset values. There is general optimism that Q3 and Q4 could have the potential for very high deal activity.
