The European mid-market has swung back into vogue recently as investors have abandoned technology and internet firms. Mark Wordsworth from Bridgepoint Capital considers the gradual development of the market in the last five years and the characteristics that make it unique. In the last five years mid market buy-outs have accounted for 48 per cent of deals by number and 44 per cent by value with the vast majority of deals coming from family and private companies. The mid-market gives investors great opportunity for varied exposure in different sectors.
