Asia's venture capital market has enjoyed substantial growth in the last couple of years. Indeed, in 2001 Asia received 12 per cent of the global venture capital allocation compared to five per cent in 2000. Greg Tarr of GT Ventures discusses this growth and argues in favour of investing in the region's mobile technology companies.
Korea, Taiwan and Japan offer some attractive opportunities for venture capital investors. Yet the region's technology companies must build solid management teams if they are to secure funding from global investors alongside their own domestic sponsors. It is this foreign investment that will determine the continued growth of the sector.
