The media sector is set to become more accessible for private equity firms following the publication of a draft Communications Bill in May 2002. The Bill is expected to become law in June 2003, says Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in this overview of the key changes. The most significant change is likely to be that non-European Economic Area countries will be able to enter the market, as the bill will enable them to own UK television and radio companies. Freshfields expects that the US in particular will seek to enter the market.
