A wave of leveraged buy-outs is on the horizon. Private equity firms, investment banks and high-yield investors are rubbing their hands at the prospect. Investment-grade bondholders, on the other hand, fear they will end up paying the price. Lisa Cooper of Credit Magazine assesses the LBO climate.
With share prices struggling, interest rates at rock bottom and companies looking to spin off non-core businesses, it was only a matter of time before LBOs returned in force. The situation is now reminiscent of the late 1980s when LBOs exploded in the US. Private equity firms are jumping on the bandwagon.
