Telecoms operators have been suffering heavy debt burdens in recent months, with various large corporates seeking to sell off non-core assets in the hope of giving a boost to ailing share prices. These developments have represented opportunities for private equity firms with money to spend. In an overview of the UK industry, Barclays Bank takes a look at the possibilities for the sector. Although large corporates still have a significant advantage competitively in the UK, well managed new market entrants will be able to find room within the telecoms industry, particularly if they can also demonstrate marketing focus, value-added services and good technology.
