Mergers and acquisitions activity in the European food industry looks set to remain buoyant according to PricewaterhouseCoopers' Food Sector Insights report. Middle-market transactions are expected to remain strong, with a growing number of larger deals emerging as the economic outlook begins to look more certain. Disclosed private equity investment in European food targets topped E2.9bn in 2002, representing over 20 per cent of total mergers and acquisitions activity in the sector during 2002. The market also provides good exit prospects through trade sales and secondary buy-outs, the report says.
