KPMG look at the current business sentiment in the information technology, telecommunications and electronics sector and the changes in the underlying factors that are likely to have an impact on the industries’ future development. The information technology, telecommunications and electronics industries are some of the most important sectors for the future of the UK economy and makes a substantial contribution to our lives. They are sectors to which KPMG, as professional advisors, and Intellect, as a trade association for the UK hi-tech industry, are steadfastly committed.
KPMG are working with Intellect in order to help identify the key issues and drivers that may impact on the future performance of the information technology, telecommunications and electronics industries.
As part of this programme we have conducted the first of a series of regular surveys, using an on-line questionnaire, in order to track both current business sentiment in the sector and the changes in the underlying factors that are likely to have an impact on the industries’ future development.
The issues which businesses in this sector currently face are of huge interest to us and, accordingly, we greatly value our respondents’ contributions to this survey. We trust that this report will provide a useful benchmark for companies to compare their own views of the prospects for the technology sector with those of their peers.
The survey was conducted using an electronic self-completion questionnaire which was e-mailed by Intellect to a sample of their members. By the closing date of Monday 20 March 2006, 51 completed questionnaires had been received. The majority (two-thirds) of responses came from companies in the IT software and services sector, with electronics companies (eight) the only other significant minority.
