Ziv Koren, director of business development in the Amdocs Advanced Technologies Unit, heads Amdocs Ascend!, a programme to identify start-ups with technologies that complement and enhance Amdocs' offerings. In this opinion piece, first publsihed in the IVCJ, he presents his well-informed take on the top ten myths surrounding start-up acquisitions by large corporations and the reality for the target companies' employees. The days of the "big bang" IPO are all but gone. Today, corporations are turning their "great big eyes" (the better to see you with!) and M&A budgets to smaller, start-up companies as a more common means of growth. For employees of to-be-acquired companies, acquisitions can be good news: they can finally turn their options into traded stock. But acquisitions can also be cause for concern. In the face of an acquisition by the "big bad corporation," employees can't help but wonder what the future holds. Will they keep their jobs? And if so, how will it be to work for a large corporation?
