Monthly European Technology Venture Capital Bulletin - January 2008 05/03/2008. Source:Go4Venture.
The bulletin includes the latest figures from Go4Venture's proprietary Headline Transaction Index, an index reflecting tech financing deals as reported in the professional press. Overall, the level of activity continues to be strong and comparable to the high point of a year ago, depending on whether you include the unusually large Plastic Logic deal of €77m in January 2007. We tracked 42 European technology venture investments in January 2008 according to our proprietary Headline Transaction Index (HTI), an increase of 15, or 56%, from 27 in the same month last year. Total monthly amount invested fell 10% year over year from €287mn to €258mn. However, if we take out the mega funding of Plastic Logic (€77mn) from the January 2007 total, then total amount invested in January 2008 would have been 22% more on a year over year basis.
The 55% year over year increase in the number of monthly deals in January 2008 speaks to the fact that we are continuing to see a greater number of smaller deals, in line with trends we saw in 2007 (see our Annual 2007 Headline Transaction Index Round Up at www.go4venture.com/research/research.htm).
