Investment in private equity is a growing issue for UK pension funds, particularly since the Myners Review of 2001. In this overview, Russell Borland of Hymans Robertson emphasises the importance of diversification in order to ensure that exposure is not limited to one part of the market.
Borland argues that, for the first-time private equity investor, investment should not be limited to the UK market, but spread across the well established markets of the US and Western Europe. He also suggests that a ‘gatekeeper' may be helpful in sourcing and analysing private equity funds.
