Private equity has enjoyed enormous growth in recent years with more and more investors recognising it as a worthwhile asset class. Ray Maxwell of Invesco examines how its growth is not unique to the US – a sign of the globalisation of the industry.
In 1945, the Bank of England and other major commercial banks formed ‘Investors in Industry' to help finance SMEs. That same group is now known as 3i, a global private equity firm with over £5.8bn under management. The industry has certainly come a long way since its humble beginnings.
