Although displaying a more cautious approach to private equity, investors are still attracted to its long-term benefits. James Norris of EPN argues that it is not all doom and gloom for the industry.
Long-term returns remained robust in 2001 at 14.2 per cent annualised IRR for total private equity, with 31.7 per cent for top quartile funds. It is not surprising, therefore, that investors are not wholly discounting private equity as an asset class even at a time when exit opportunities are limited.
