Opportunistic investing: real estate private equity funds10/04/2002. Source: Ernst & Young.
Real estate private equity funds date back to the late 1980s/early 1990s and have since become more sophisticated. This survey by Ernst & Young explores the dynamics of real estate private equity funds, the tax issues involved and the need for greater transparency in reporting methods.
The survey finds that the sector has enjoyed enormous growth since the early 1990s with over 100 funds believed to be active throughout the world. These funds are also flush with capital. Indeed, it is believed that at least $20bn remains to be assigned and that in excess of $90bn has been raised by real estate private equity funds since 1991.
