The decrease in fundraising in the Israeli venture capital market reflects the current downward trend across the globe. During 2002, private Israeli high-tech companies raised $1.14bn from venture investors - a 43 per cent drop from the $2bn raised in 2001. This quarterly survey from the IVC Research Centre assesses the venture capital landscape in Israel in 2002.
352 companies raised capital in 2002, a decrease of 33 percent from 2001. In the fourth quarter of 2002, 89 Israeli high-tech companies raised $205m. This figure is 23 per cent lower than the $266m raised during the third quarter and 56 per cent below the $464m raised in the fourth quarter of 2001.
