The Israeli high-tech sector is showing signs of a gentle recovery as fundraising figures by companies in the sector have improved on the previous quarter. Yet they still remain some way behind those of the previous year. The IVC Research Centre provides an insight into the current Israeli venture capital landscape.
Israeli high-tech companies raised $211m from venture investors in the first quarter of 2003, an increase on the $205m raised in Q4 2002 but significantly down on the $376m raised in the first quarter of 2002. Initial investments continue to decline, accounting for only 34 per cent of total Israeli VC investments in the first quarter, compared with 42 per cent for Q4 2002.
