European targets have accounted for 63 per cent of all private equity M&A activity between 2000 and the third quarter of 2003, according to the JPMorgan Global Private Equity Survey. US targets accounted for just 32 per cent of the total and private equity M&A was minimal in the rest of the world.
There have been 65 private equity deals valued at over $1bn globally since 2000. European targets accounted for seven of the ten largest private equity deals over the period.
