Venture capital firms from around the world invested just over $1bn in Israeli high-tech companies in 2003. The total value of investments was down by 14 per cent on the $1.14bn invested in the previous year, according to the Israeli Venture Capital Research Centre. Seed companies increased their share of capital raised in 2003 as 37 companies attracted $58m, six per cent of the total, compared to $23m or two per cent of capital raised in 2002. But seed company capital raisings still lagged far behind the $300m raised in 1999, when seed firms accounted for ten per cent of the total.
