Given the extreme difficulty in achieving exits by way of trade sales or IPOs in the last couple of years, the most common exit options in the first half of 2004 have been refinancings and secondary buy-outs, according to the latest Corpfin monthly review. Flexibility of approach to exits will become increasingly important going forward. Private equity houses will need to evaluate different exit opportunities and weigh up the pros and cons of different exit routes against cash returns, timing, complexity and deliverability.
