In the first quarter of 2004, 111 Israeli high-tech companies raised $323m from venture investors. This represents a 31 per cent increase from the $246m raised by 96 companies in the previous quarter and a 53 per cent increase from the $211m raised by 86 companies in the first quarter of last year, according to the IVC Research Centre.
Communications companies represented the most active sector in the first quarter. A total of 27 communications firms attracted $108m of venture investment, 33 per cent of the total amount raised. Software followed with $89m raised by 27 companies, an increase of 65 per cent from the previous quarter and a 134 per cent increase from the first quarter of 2003.
