The steady upward trend in US venture capital continued in the second quarter of 2004 with $5.6bn invested in 761 companies, according to the US MoneyTree Survey. This compares to total investments of $5bn in the first quarter of 2004 and $5.4bn in the fourth quarter of 2003. The life sciences sector continued to dominate other industries as it has for the past eight consecutive quarters. Investments in the sector totalled $1.4bn or 25 per cent of all venture capital.
