New research commissioned by The British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association reveals that the private equity industry generated a total of £5.4bn of income for the financial and professional services sector in the financial year 2006-2007. This figure represents 12 per cent of the total annual revenue of the UK financial services industry. £1bn of this was generated outside of London, demonstrating that private equity contributes to the diversity and vibrancy of the UK's regional economies.
The research study, conducted by Arbor Square Associates on behalf of the BVCA, is the first fully comprehensive report into the impact of the private equity and venture capital industry on the financial and professional services sector. It also shows that over 18,000 people are employed either directly or indirectly by private equity in the UK, the vast majority of whom are in highly skilled jobs.
