19/02/2003Source: AltAssets.

Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityAfter a gentle upturn in investment levels last week, activity slowed once again, with 42 deals involving 110 active investors across 12 sectors, compared to last week's 57 deals involving 151 investors.

The three exits all took place in Europe. GE Capital sold its 50 per cent stake in MEPC property company to Hermes Pension Management, HSBC exited its investment in France-based Ampafrance and 3i and Spef/Banques Populaires sold French manufacturing firm La Toulousaine to Banexi Capital Partenaires.

Once again North American venture capital proved to be the most popular stage, with 28 transactions recorded that could be defined as venture deals.

In terms of sector, healthcare and life sciences staged a mild comeback after activity had dropped off somewhat; 13 of the 42 deals were in the healthcare arena. Software was also relatively popular, with a further ten deals globally.
