US private equity giant the Carlyle Group has hired former XO Communications Chairman Daniel Akerson as a managing director.
He will be based in Washington with a focus on technology venture and buy-out opportunities in North America.
Carlyle managing director and co-founder Daniel D'Aniello said: ‘Dan is a superb addition to the firm. His decades of operational and investment experience across both corporate and private equity platforms will strengthen our investment team and sector specialties.'
Akerson was chairman and chief executive of XO Communications from 1999 to 2003, overseeing a growth in revenue from $250m to $1.3bn annually. Prior to joining XO, he was a general partner at buy-out firm Forstmann, Little & Company.
