JP Morgan Partners has acquired two publishing companies, Atwood Publishing and GEM Communications, through its portfolio company Ascend Media, from media merchant bank Veronis Suhler Stevenson.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Veronis Suhler also acquired a stake in Ascend Media through its fund VS&A Communications III.
‘Atwood Publishing and GEM Communications are fine B-to-B publishing assets which have performed very well in an extremely difficult operating environment for B-to-B properties,' said Scott Troeller, partner at Veronis Suhler. ‘They will be excellent additions to Ascend Media as they look to build their business.'
Ascend Media was founded by JP Morgan Partners along with Cameron Bishop, president and CEO, and Dan Altman, in 2002. JPMP has committed at least $50m in equity capital to Ascend Media.
The deal represents further evidence of burgeoning secondary buy-out activity, and also backs up recent research from KPMG that found that private equity houses expected to be more active in the media sector in 2003.
