Providence Equity Partners has hired Julie Richardson as managing director. Richardson joins the firm from JP Morgan Chase where she was vice-chairman of the investment-banking department and chairman of its telecoms, media and technology group.
Prior to joining JP Morgan, Richardson was a managing director in the telecoms and media group at Merrill Lynch. She advised on Comcast's acquistion of AT&T Broadband and the creation of the Verizon/Vodafone joint venture.
Providence Equity specialises in media and communications company investments. The firm has raised over $5bn in equity commitments under management including $2.8bn raised in its most recent fund, Providence Equity Partners IV, and has invested in over 20 countries since its inception in 1991.
Providence Equity recently led a consortium to buy Casema, the Dutch cable operator, from France Telecom, and bought Eircom, an Irish fixed line phone company as part of another private equity group.
