Carlyle appoints director for Asian operations

Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityThe Carlyle Group has appointed former Goldman Sachs executive John Kwun as director of its Carlyle Asia Partners. Kwun will be based in Seoul.

Kwun was previously executive director and head of North Asia mergers and acquisitions at Goldman Sachs, according to the Wall Street Journal Asia.

The latest Carlyle Asia Partners fund closed on $170m in June last year. The fund focuses mainly on early-stage opportunities in a number of Asian countries, especially China, Taiwan, India and Korea.

The firm closed its first Carlyle Asia Partners fund, which engages in buy-outs, privatisations and strategic minority investments, in 1999 on $750m and manages separate funds for investment in Japan.

Carlyle currently lists 24 portfolio companies in Asia including Chinese department store, Pacific China Holdings, KorAm Bank in Korea and Taiwan Broadbank Communications.
