Larry Schloss, global head of Credit Suisse First Boston’s (CSFB) private equity operations, is to leave the firm in March 2004. Schloss is leaving ‘to explore new entrepreneurial opportunities in the private equity and asset management businesses,’ according to John Mack, CSFB’s co-chief executive.
Schloss joined CSFB in November 2000 when it merged with Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, where he had spent the previous 22 years. CSFB Private Equity currently manages over $31bn of funds, making it the largest pool of private equity capital in the world.
During his tenure as head of CSFB’s private equity business, Schloss oversaw the $5.3bn fundraising of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners III, one of the largest buy-out funds ever raised. He was also responsible for the Sprout Group venture capital unit. No decisions have yet been made regarding a possible replacement for Schloss, according to various news reports.
