 3i has emerged as the frontrunner in the bidding for the medical division of UK-based SSL International, the manufacturer of Durex condoms.
The company has entered into exclusive talks with the private equity group in a sale expected to raise in the region of £275m.
3i has fought off rival bids from Morgan Stanley Capital Partners and Apax Partners, after all three firms submitted their final offers earlier this month, according to a report by Reuters.
SSL’s medical division manufactures Regent Biogel surgical gloves and Hibi antiseptics. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
