Canadian venture capital firms Skypoint Capital and Venture Coaches have merged under the Skypoint Capital name. The new entity will continue Skypoint’s strategy of investing in early-stage technology companies.
Skypoint and Venture Coaches have had a working relationship for over 20 years as co-investors in TrueContext, Andrew Katz, president of Skypoint Capital told Venture Wire. The firms have merged to manage Skypoint’s current $100m fund because they are already involved in similar deals and because they would benefit from expanding their investment team, Katz went on to explain.
Venture Coaches also has a $25m fund, which Skypoint will help to manage. Venture Coaches invests in information technology and communications companies.
Claude Haw, founder and managing partner of Venture Coaches is to join Skypoint as a general partner. Larry Perron and Jaswinder Kaur, both partners at Venture Coaches, will join Skypoint as partner and senior associate respectively. Leo Lax, Peter Charbonneau and Katz all join as managing partners.
The combined firm has $185m under management and has invested in 34 companies in the last five years, primarily in Canada but also in the US, Israel and the UK.
