The international investment firm and family office to the Brenninkmeijer family, Bregal Investments, has announced a $600m commitment to US middle-market private equity firm Centre Partners.
‘A core part of our strategy was to identify two premier private equity funds, one in the US and one in Europe, where we could become principal investors and an active partner in the fund,’ explained Yves de Balmann, co-chairman of Bregal.
‘After extensive due diligence, there was no question that Centre Partners was ideal for our objectives. They have an impeccable reputation, a tremendous team of professionals and a sound investment approach to the middle market,’ he said.
Earlier this year, Bregal invested E650m in UK-based buy-out group Englefield Capital, which focuses on mid-market companies in Western Europe. The firm has also allocated E700m to invest between E20m and E70m in a number of additional funds over the next four years.
‘We are thrilled to have found these two industry leaders to anchor our private equity portfolio,’ said Louis Brenninkmeijer, co-chairman of Bregal. ‘Through our diligence on a large number of American and European firms, we acquired keen insight into the private equity market as a whole, as well as the quality of the investment opportunities available and the quality of professionals in the industry. We are both optimistic and energised by the future potential of our investments.’
