Carlyle Group announces appointments as it expands into Mexico for first time15/12/2003. Source: AltAssets. 
The Carlyle Group, a US-based global private equity firm, has made a trio of high- level appointments as part of a first foray into Mexico. The firm has hired Luis Tellez and Joaquin Avila to head up its activities in the country and announced that Thomas McLarty will become a senior advisor on the region.
Tellez was formerly an executive vice president of Desc, a Mexican conglomerate, while Avila was a managing director at Lehman Brothers. McLarty was a chief of staff and special envoy to the Americas for US president Bill Clinton.
David Rubinstein, a co-founder and managing director of Carlyle, said: ‘Mexico is fertile terrain for private equity investing. Luis and Joaquin are the perfect investment professionals to spearhead Carlyle’s investment activities in Mexico.’
The Carlyle Group has established significant private equity operations around the globe. It has a large presence in Europe and has been one of the most active international private equity investors in Asia in recent years. The group now has $17.5bn under management and invests across a wide range of stages and sectors.
